Roberto Rosenman was born in Venezuela and moved to Canada at an early age. Primarily a self-taught artist, he studied drawing and painting at The Ontario College of Art & Design for a year and painting at  Grand Central Academy in New York . In addition, he pursued studies in literature at York University. Rosenman switches between still life and portraiture, always incorporating strong symbolism and narrative in his work. He lives in Toronto and teaches drawing and painting at George Brown College.

"In my work, the technical aspect of realism is inextricably linked to my choice of subject matter in that it is meant to force the viewer to look beyond the objective and material world. I choose to depict everyday objects that are stripped of personal or emotional association and not normally worthy of regard. It is through the overloading of the insignificant with significance that the magical and metaphysical qualities of everyday object are revealed." - Roberto Rosenman
