Richard “Dick” Bonnycastle’s journey as an art collector was deeply connected with his Winnipeg roots and his Alberta home. Inspired by a love for the Canadian West, Dick acquired art that reflected the region's landscapes and culture.

Over the years, Dick built a collection that not only embodies the spirit of the land he cherished, but also stands as a testament to his appreciation for the arts. Each piece tells a story of his lifelong dedication to celebrating western Canada’s artistic heritage.

Through this exhibition Dick’s legacy as a devoted collector and patron of the arts lives on.

A Celebration of Canadiana presents a carefully curated collection of 19th century watercolour and oil paintings, showcasing the unique beauty of Canada's landscape and heritage.

With a focus on capturing the rugged natural scenery and quiet moments of everyday life, these works reflect the spirit of a Canadian identity seen through the eyes of artists who were committed to depicting their country’s diverse vistas. From sweeping views of the Maritimes and tranquil rivers and forests of Ontario and Quebec to the prairies and mountains in the West, each piece in this exhibition reveals a deep connection between art and nature.

The collection brings together paintings that span regions and styles, uniting historical and contemporary visions of Canadiana in one setting. We invite you to explore this tribute to Canada’s artistic legacy.
