Loch Gallery is excited to present "Here and There, This and That" New Pictures from the Perth Studio by Philip Craig, an exhibition of expansive subject matter and expression.
In this exhibition, Philip takes us around the world and home again. From expertly rendered skies that capture a moment in time to intimate interiors and affectionate depictions of tropical animals, the exhibition shows a side of the artist that is not only ambitious and highly skilled, but also humorous and devoted.
Philip Craig is a exceptional painter who always manages to capture his subject in its most beautiful light. Born in Ottawa in 1951, he was encouraged to pursue art from a young age. Upon graduating from Sheridan College of Art and Design in 1971, Philip spent the next decade of his life living and working in St. John's Newfoundland. Here, he worked as a set designer for CBC and within the isolation of the island, he was able to focus on traditional subject matter including landscape, portrait, and still life paintings.
By 1986, the act of painting became so compelling that Philip returned to his home base in Ottawa with his young family determined to paint full time. It is here where he currently resides, continuing to paint abundantly. The search for new subject matter and the wish to develop his technical abilities pushed Craig first to visit England, then France, Italy, Morocco and India – all travels that not only enriched his palette but also gave him a deeper appreciation of light.
Philip’s pictures are in a number of important private and corporate collections throughout the world. He continues to show work with Loch Gallery annually and with each exhibition, he demonstrates his strive to push forward the execution of his skills in creating a mature personal style of painting recognizable by his gift of light.
"Here and There, This and That" features over 40 new paintings by Philip Craig and will run until July 8, 2023.
