During his career spanning over 60 years, Ron Bolt has explored a variety of subjects, ranging from rugged coastlines and distant mountain ranges to tropical paradises. His love of travel and exploration has led to exhibitions showcasing destinations across the United States, as well as Tunisia, Mexico, Italy, and Jamaica. A deep passion for the wild regions of Canada has taken him across the country, from Newfoundland to Tofino, the Yukon, and the High Arctic. However, the subject matter he continually returns to with overriding passion, is the sea—its reflective qualities, how photography captures it, and the magical ways in which it recasts the natural world.
Bolt writes, “I revel in the infinite variety of the natural world and my work is an act of preservation. To preserve the natural world is to preserve a language. It’s the language of the wind and shifting light, of silence, stillness and space. It allows us to converse with the other voices, the voices of our true aspirations, our regrets, our hopes.”
