Ivan Eyre painting “Uplands” achieves world record price at auction

Ivan Eyre painting Uplands achieves world record price at auction on Nov 27, 2014.

Last night marked an epic evening for the artwork of celebrated Winnipeg artist Ivan Eyre. Eyre’s painting Uplands (1981, acrylic on canvas, 56” x 79”, Lot #22) sold at over 5 times its estimate at the Heffel Fine Art Auction in Toronto breaking the former record of $255,000 set by the sale of Long Umber Rough, purchased by James Richardson & Sons in 2008.  The air was electric with five active bidders across the room lifting their paddles, down to two with Loch Gallery securing Uplands for a new world record of $318,600.

Eyre has exhibited in more than 65 solo and 250 group exhibitions across Canada and around the world. Among his many honours, Eyre was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy, received the Queen's Gold and Silver Jubilee medals, the Order of Manitoba, an honorary Doctor of Law from the University of Manitoba, many grants as well as being the subject of several films and over 5 books.

Ivan Eyre donated 200 paintings, 3000 drawings and a number of sculptures to the Pavilion Art Galleries in Winnipeg. In 2010 Ivan Eyre donated nine monumental sculptures to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinberg, Ontario.

Ivan Eyre's paintings and sculptures are exclusively represented in Canada by Loch Gallery in Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary.

Ivan Eyre's sculptures are exclusively represented in the United States by Melissa Morgan Fine Art in El Paseo and Palm Desert.
